WiP Wednesday and FOs

Last week was a great accomplishment for me. I wanted to start working on my never ending bucket list, you know the one….the one that keeps growing on Ravelry, in several folders on your computer or tablet, or in a file cabinet somewhere….and I decided on a pattern that I had saved in OneNote. It’s called Lil Granny Bunny by Little Yarn Friends. She is absolutely adorable! I posted it on my personal Facebook page and got a few likes which led to a commission! Seven of them!! YAY! Here she is in all her glory! I still have to make the glasses for it (I didn’t have any wire on hand to make it) but I will make some soon. She was done in Red Heart SS and With Love and an F hook.

Ta Daaaaaa! Here she is with her Bible!

"Gotta study the Word of the Lord"

“Gotta study the Word of the Lord”

Yeeeaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh! My embroidery is not that great BUT I have a great idea for the commissions that I am making that will help it stand out better and add a nice touch.

"Love my ears?"

“Love my ears?”

"Don't mind me! Just a bit tired."

“Don’t mind me! Just a bit tired.”

"Can't forget my Bible!"

“Can’t forget my Bible!”

For my WiP, I chose another pattern from Little Yarn Friends called Lil Classic Teddy. This one I am making in Caron Simply Soft in Bone and Pagdoa. I wanted to see how it would look and so far, I like what I see. There is a nice sheen to it but based on the way that my daughter treats her cushion that I made her last year May and the way that it looks now, I recommend it for older children. I will make another one in cotton and see how that turns out. It should be more durable. I started it the same night that I finished the bunny. The only night that I didn’t work on it was last night. I was getting some things together for my commission and taking inventory. Here is what I have so far.

"Peek-a-boooooo! I see you!"

“Peek-a-boooooo! I see you!”

I can’t wait until it is finished! I am going to set up a spot for all my stuffed toys so they can keep each other company. πŸ˜› Heh heh. Whelp, it is time for me to make lunch for the kiddos. See you tomorrow!

God Bless!

Meditation Monday – Changing Your Mindset

Changing the way you think has a great effect on how you approach anything in life. For example, this morning, you may have awaken with a sense of dread knowing that you had to go into work. You may deal with others that you do not necessarily care to be around or having to work for someone who may be inconsiderate. There are many reasons as to why you feel the way you do but I am here to tell you that it can change and you don’t have to continue to feel this way, in spite of your situation.

Prayer changes any situation, it changes you and the way that you think and approach obstacles in life. It will change your mindset. Prayer is a powerful tool in the hands of believers and when used consistently and efficiently, will see changes within themselves and their surroundings. Start off your day in prayer and see what can happen!

Tumblr Finds – Spiritual Inspiration

Something from my Tumblr dashboard….

Concerns and problems flood our minds. There is always so much to do! But, God wants the very best for you but you just have to know how to recognize it and lay hold of it.

If you’ve ever said to yourself, β€œI don’t even have time to think,” then you know how hard it is to concentrate when you’re being bombarded from all sides. It’s even harder to focus on God when we can’t take time to renew our minds and refresh our spirits by quiet reflection. God doesn’t often shout to get our attention. Instead, He usually speaks to us in β€œa still small voice” (1 Kings 19:12, NKJV).

So what can we do to put ourselves in a position to hear God’s voice? We have to make time in our daily lives to get quiet. David said of the Lord in Psalm 23:2, β€œHe leads me beside quiet waters.” Today I want to encourage you to find those quiet waters where you can get alone with the Lord. It may be a room in your house, outside under the trees, or some other place where you can shut out the noise and distractions of the world for just a few precious minutes. The key to renewing your mind, body and spirit is to develop the habit and discipline of meditating on the Word of God every day β€” even if it is for just a moment.

God Bless!

WiP Wednesday – Socks and Other Adventures

It’s finally finished! Well, one foot anyway. Here it is…

Sock #1

Sock #1

I finished it two nights ago and immediately started the 2nd one. This pattern has been difficult for me because it is written for circulars and not DPN. Up to the heel flap is easy (duh…it’s just a tube at this point :P) but knowing how many stitches for the flap itself and figuring out the gusset was a bit tedious. I took some notes. I just hope that I can understand them!

At it once again

At it once again

Last night I decided that I was going to start crocheting items from my never ending bucket list. There is nothing that the kids and I need at the moment but I still want to crochet something. Today I am going to go through all my patterns and pick out the ones that I want to do this month and see how it goes. I will be posting progress and final photos up on my Facebook page so come by and take a gander over the next couple of weeks.

That is all for today. I know, pretty short, but I haven’t been doing too much here lately. So, until tomorrow my lovelies!

God Bless!

Recipe Time! – Downhome Barbeque Beef Short Ribs

It’s getting hot, hot, HOT! And when it starts getting hot, it’s time for BBQs!! Here is a recipe that your family and friends will love and you will definitely be the hit of the party!

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/tyler-florence/downhome-barbecue-beef-short-ribs-recipe.html

Doesn’t this look delicious? Yummmm!

What you need:

  • 8 pounds beef short ribs, cut across the bone
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 cup brown mustard
  • 1/2 cup red wine vinegar
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon granulated onion
  • 1 tablespoon granulated garlic
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Kitchen Items:

  • Stock Pot
  • Spoon

Directions:

Fill a large stockpot with water and bring to a boil. Add the ribs, garlic cloves and bay leaf. Parboil the ribs, covered, for 45 minutes to 1 hour, until fork tender.

In a medium saucepan, combine all ingredients. Pour 1 cup of the rib water into the mixture. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for approximately 15 minutes until the sauce has thickened and is heated through. Add the ribs to the pot, turning with tongs to coat well. Season with salt and pepper.

Transfer the ribs to a hot outdoor grill, meat side down first, and cook 8 to 10 minutes on each side, taking care not to burn them. Serve with remaining sauce on the side.

Whelp! There you go. You can make some home made Cole slaw, mac and cheese, an potato salad to go with it. Serve with a nice cold drink.
God Bless!

Meditation Monday – Take Courage

When life seems to get you down and you don’t know what to do next, take courage. Jesus said in John 16:33, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” (KJV, my emphasis)

Happy Friday!

Something from my Tumblr dashboard…

β€œBut those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)

There are times in life that we all get tired: tired of trying to make a business grow, tired of dealing with a sickness, tired of raising a difficult child, tired of living lonely, waiting to meet the right person. We can even be doing what we love, living in the house of our dreams, raising great children, or working at a good job, but if we’re not careful, we can lose our passion and allow weariness to set in.The problem is if you allow yourself to become weary, you’ll be tempted to quit: to quit growing, quit standing for that wayward child, quit believing to get healthy and whole, or quit pursuing your goals and dreams.

That’s why you have to wait upon the Lord and hope in Him. Don’t give up when victory is right around the corner. God promises He will renew your strength. As you thank God for fighting your battles, you will be able to run and not get weary, you’ll walk and not faint. You’re not going to drag through life defeated, depressed, and under the circumstances. You’re going to soar through life on wings like eagles, overcoming every obstacle, defeating every enemy and accomplishing every God-given dream.

God Bless!

Thoughts…

On days like today, where I have to run errands, can get pretty stressful. Not a bad stress but a good one. The kids have a blast because they love taking the bus and get to see new things. I get some time to knit as well to pass the time. Today though was a bit different. On the way to Walmart, I noticed two men and an older woman looking out of one of the bus windows. All I can hear was, “He’s not moving, he’s not moving”. So I lean forward and look out the corner of the back window and there is this man passed out on the ground next to a bus stop with his shopping bag next to him and his cane laying askew. Now I knew for a fact that two of the three people watching had a cell phone with them. One of the men kept saying, “No one is stopping to help him. They are just leaving him there”. So I think, he could have easily called 911 instead of talking about it. (Which is true.) I put down my knitting and called 911. I let them know what had happened and I let them know that I was on the bus and happened to see. Didn’t take longer than 3 or 4 minutes. I prayed that I wasn’t the only one that called because the road that I was traveling on is a pretty busy street and it wasn’t like the man was hidden out of the way. He was blocking the sidewalk. My concern was, just as the other man stated, no one had even stopped to see if he was alright. The bus stop was next to a large intersection and in front of a gas station. Someone had to have seen him!

It reminded me of NY where people would ignore the homeless that were on the street. It was a sad situation. I can only speculate as to why the man was on the ground. He had shopping bags with him and at the time, it wasn’t too hot and it was breezy. He could have had low blood sugar or could have been in an altercation…I don’t know. I just hope that he is alright. I don’t even know if I can call back and find out if they had picked him up or if he was still there by the time the ambulance got there. I’ll keep this anonymous man in my prayers because that is all that I can really do. It is times like these that I wonder about humanity. I wonder, what is so hard to take time out and help a fellow man? I’m not mad or anything, just concerned.

Have you ever been in a similar situation? I would like to hear your thoughts.

God Bless!
