You Know What Today Is! WiP Wednesday! Yay!

Well, well, well. This is probably one of my most favorite day of the week. I get to show you what I have been working on. This time I am working on 4 different projects – 2 knit and 2 crochet.

The first one is a hat that I am knitting. I had recently bought a pair of circulars for a project and to get used to knitting in the round, I decided to make a simple hat. Easy enough, right? Heh, heh.  I took it one step further and see what would happen if I flipped my knitting over and continued to knit. This is what I came up with:

'Lazy Knitted Cap'. Using Berroco Comfort in color 9713

‘Lazy Knitted Cap’. Using Berroco Comfort in color 9713

I call it ‘lazy knitting’ only because I don’t have to purl at all…just flip the work over. I love the results because it makes the hat sort of reversible to which look you prefer. I think my next issue is how to bind it off in a way that I can cinch it shut. I haven’t gotten that far as yet nor have I decided if I just want to make it a slouch or decrease to make it a fitted cap. I might just continue with the ‘lazy’ route and continue to knit until there is just enough to bind off and close. I am having fun and that is what is important, right?!

This next one I am making for my children – place mats and coasters. They are some very messy eaters no matter how I try to teach them the proper way to use utensils. They do to a certain extent but always resort to what the good Lord made for them, their fingers! So, you can imagine the mess they can make especially eating their favorite dish…spaghetti and meatballs! Aye-yai-yai-yai-yai! (My favorite phrase from The God’s Must Be Crazy! – hilarious!) I figure if they can keep the mess contained to the mats, I don’t have to keep treating the table  every other day. I’m also contemplating making a table cloth as well but who needs another project? Ha, ha!

I am also knitting a new scarf for my son. When we went into Walmart last Friday, I had to scope out some yarn for one of the kids at church and for my son to choose which color green he wanted. And he picked this bright green that I can only knit at night in low light. All I can say is that he will not be hard to see when it gets dark!

This last one is another doily that I am making. I found the pattern and decided that I wanted something bigger so I am using a larger hook than recommended. I’m thinking that when I move, this will go on the dining table as the base for a centerpiece. Time will tell.

This is all that are on my hooks and needles. What is on yours?

Crochet Updates

It seems like forever since I have shared anything crochet related but that is what happens when you take a week off. I was just a bit overwhelmed with everything that was going on with me personally that I had to take a break from the computer. I have about 3 weeks of posts and patterns to download and I don’t even feel like doing that. Maybe tomorrow….or sometime this weekend. But, I will share with you what I have done in the last couple of weeks.

I finished the Top-Down Shawl and I have to say that this is my favorite out of the three that I have made. It is long and it is warm though I do need to get a pin or broach for it because it slips off my shoulders and I’m always readjusting during church. I didn’t have a large enough surface to block it so I had to wrap it around the screen that I have been using. But here it is. The picture is kinda crappy because I was too short to capture all of it. But as you can see it lays across my large bed.

I know that it is not completely center but you get the idea. I absolutely love it!

As I mentioned before, I was testing a pattern for a good friend of mine. If you have been following her blog, you would have seen her debut her new hat, Is it Knit? Crochet Hat. When I tested the pattern, I used what I had on had. (Not in the position to buy yarn for a while 😦 ) I used Red Heart Super Saver in Spring Green. Because of the yarn, it came out larger than it was supposed to but on the other hand, Rhondda now has info for the pattern using a different yarn. The size that it came to be can fit a small headed female.

I had fun learning a new stitch and I know that I will be using it again in the future. Maybe for a scarf or shawl…we’ll see.

I haven’t done much else but today I am going to be working on a simple shawl. I should be making some headbands and leis for Sunday since we are having an Aloha Sunday to kick off the school year for the students. I also need to make some rice as well since we are having a luau after the evening service. Gonna be awesome! If you are in the Charlotte area, you are more than welcome to come. If you are planning to attend either morning services or the evening service, dress in your Hawaiian best! (Grass skirts left at home please!) The event will be held at Laurel Baptist Church, come and be blessed!

Well I am going to take it easy for the rest of the day and do a whole bunch of HDCs until it is time to go to church.

Happy hookin’ and God Bless!

Shawl Crazy!

I’ve been on this shawl kick lately…I guess you can call it a kick. I am working on my third one right now. I don’t think that there will be an end in sight! I finished the Daylight Tweedy Shawl on Sunday. I was a bit distracted towards the end of last week and didn’t get to crochet as much as I wanted to. But here it is! I haven’t sewed in the tails or blocked it as yet. I am still figuring out how to block it properly. I might just hang it over the shower rod and block it that way. I added a trim to it as well in my favorite color, blue. I used Caron Simply Soft in Ocean. Here it is:

It’s folded in half but you get the idea. Here is the other shawl that I am working on right now…again in my favorite color, blue. This color is called Pagoda.

This is the Top-Down Shawl. I saved this a while ago when it was first featured on Red Heart website and then the craze happened. Now that I am in need of shawls to wear when I go to church, this went straight on my to-do list for crochet items. It is fairly easy and going by somewhat quickly but I will get it done by Saturday so that it can be blocked and ready for Sunday. I do have a sinking feeling that I added extra stitches and since there is no stitch count noted in the pattern, I won’t know for sure until I have to do the trim. Oh well! I will have to tweak it in order for it to work if that happens. I’m on the 8th of 21 pattern repeats — 26 more rows to do…still a ways to go but it’ll be ready to go with my dress that I am wearing on Sunday..

This is the next shawl on my list. It is called Pineapple Shawl and it can be found on Caron.com. I don’t know what color that I will do in as yet. I may get some inspiration when I run errands tomorrow morning. Since today is fairly cool, overcast and raining, I will be crocheting most of the day until it is time for me to go to bible study tonight. Today is going to be a good day.

Have a great Wednesday!

God Bless!
